Ad August ed Herman Upmann, banchieri tedeschi, si deve la fondazione di questa storica marca nel 1844 (“H” infatti sta per “Hermanos”) e ad essi appartenne la gestione sino alla vendita nel 1922 alla società inglese Frankau & Co. L’edificio in calle Amistad, alle spalle di Partagás, che ha ospitato la manifattura sino a pochi anni fa, è stato uno dei luoghi del sigaro più visitati dell’Avana. Oggi la nuova manifattura è un modello per tutte le fabbriche di Habanos e continua a sfornare una splendida gamma: dal Sir Winston al Magnum 46, i miti di Upmann risplendono di una luce propria.
