Yorgos Mitakidis was born in 1993 in Thessaloniki (Greece).

"The making of smoking pipes started with a childhood memory of a family friend who used to smoke a pipe and had all the accesories too. This memory comes to life when I was 19 years old and I bought my first pipe and tobacco. Since there it has started my journey to the magical world of smoking pipes. Shortly afterwards a friend of mine, Panos, who made traditional bagpipes offered me a job in his workshop. There for the first time I had direct access to machinery and tools so my love for manufacturing was born".

After a University course in agrotechnics he started making his early pipes, which were all sold in a short time.

Owner of a workshop since 2017 he has been trying to make high grade pipes inspired by classic English shapes as an ideal, but above all "by objects that could exist in nature and by the environment we live in".

And it's this "organic" aspect, the great formal balance that is highly impressive about this young and skilled artisan: pipes which could be found in Nature, no artificiality, but light element of a pure aestethic pleasure like searching a shape which has always been his own. Therefore, premium quality briar wood from all the Mediterranean countries, handcut mouthpieces and German ebonite while ornaments are silver, brass, horn, bamboo.

Each pipe has a stamp with his name, the track number and the year of making.

Yorgos Mitakidis nasce in Grecia nel 1993.

Appassionato da sempre di musica e pittura studia agrotecnica all'Università di Salonnico.

"Il primo ricordo legato alla pipa è quello di me bambino che guardo affascinato le pipe e gli accessori di un amico di famiglia. Ed è lo stesso che mi accompagna quando a 19 anni compro la mia prima pipa e relativo tabacco. Quando poi, da lì a breve, l’amico Panos (che realizza zampogne tradizionali) mi offre un lavoro nel suo studio, mi innamoro della manualità, degli strumenti, dei macchinari per “il fare”.

Conclusi gli studi Universitari si diletta con le prime pipe, che vende tutte.

Nel 2017 avvia un proprio laboratorio e una piccola produzione ispirata idealmente alle forme classiche Inglesi ma anche, soprattutto, "alle forme della natura, all'ambiente in cui siamo immersi e che ci include".

Ed è proprio l'aspetto "organico", di grande equilibrio formale, molto preciso quello che maggiormente colpisce nelle pipe di questo giovane e bravissimo artigiano: pipe che hanno forme di oggetti che potremmo anche trovare in natura, nessun artificio forzato ma lievi e tenui elementi di puro piacere estetico, del materiale che si plasma come per riconquistare una forma che gli è propria. Quindi, radica mediterranea di prima scelta, ebanite tedesca, bocchini fatti a mano, ornamenti in argento, bamboo, ottone.
